Zippy

This is a very quick project, and it's pretty easy to zip right through the pattern.

Requirements:

Size I hook
Approx 110 yards Malabrigo Worsted Merino yarn
Tapestry hook to work in ends

Ch=Chain
DC=Double Crochet
HDC= Half Double Crochet
SC= Single Crochet
SC2tog= Single crochet 2 together

Chain 3. Join with a slip stitch to first chain to create a circle.

Row 1: Ch 3 (counts as 1 DC throughout). Work 15 DCs into circle. (I like to work these stitches over my tail to weave it in as I go) Join with sl to first DC (16 st)

Row 2: Ch3. DC into same stitch. 2 DCs in each stitch around. Join with sl to first DC. (36 st)

Row 3: Ch3. DC into same stitch. DC in next 3 stitches. *2DC in next stitch. DC in next 3 stitches* repeat around. Join with sl to first DC. (42 st)

Row 4: Ch3. DC into same stitch. DC in next 4 stitches. *2 DC in next stitch. DC in next 4 stitches* repeat around. Join with sl to first DC. (48 st)

At this point, circle should cover the crown of your head. (not the entire top of the head) If you wish to make it larger, continue increasing in pattern, adding another DC before working 2 DC in next stitch. (ie, next round would be worked : Ch3. Dc in same stitch. DC in next 5 stitches. *2 DC in next stitch. DC in next 5 stitches* repeat around. Join w/sl to first DC)

Row 5: Ch3. DC into each stitch around. Join w/sl to first DC.

Row 6: Ch2. HDC in each stitch around. Join w/sl to first HDC.

Repeat Row 6 until hat measures 6 1/2" from top to bottom edge, or till hat is approx. 1 inch shorter than desired length.

Shape Band:

Row 1:: Ch1. SC in each stitch around. Join w'sl to first SC. (48 st)
Row 2: Ch1. * SC 10. SC2tog.* Repeat around. Join w/sl to first sc. (44 st)
Row 3: Ch1. SC in each stitch around.
Row 4: Repeat Row 3.

Fasten off and weave in end.
