Ribbed Panta~ Tapered version
This version of the Ribbed Panta is geared toward those with shorter hair. It tapers to a narrower band in the back, allowing shorter hair to lay flat. (original version was worked even all the way around)
The top pictures, done in Velvet Grapes colorway, were worked in the wider tapered version described below.
Size I hook
approx 50 yard Malabrigo Worsted Merino (shown in Damask Rose colorway)
Gauge: 12 stitches= 4" in pattern
Finished size" 17.75 inches around, unstretched.
Ch=Chain stitch
SC=Single Crochet
BLO= work in back loop only
SL= slip stitch
Chain 41 loosely.
Foundation Row:
SC in second chain from hook
SC all chains to end. Turn. (40 stitches)
Row 1: Ch1. Working in BLO (back loop only), work 2 sc in first SC.
SC till one SC is left. Work 2 SCs in this stitch. Turn. (inc 2)
Repeat Row 1 twice more. Do not turn after last repeat.(46 stitches)
Ch 9 loosely. Being careful not to twist stitches, join chained stitches to opposite end with a SL (slip stitch) to first SC. Turn.
You will now be working in the round, turning after each row to maintain the ribbed effect.
Row 1: Ch1. SC in each of the 9 chains just created.
SC BLO next 46 stitches to complete row.
Join with SL to first SC in row. Turn.
Row 2: Ch1. SC around. Join with SL to first SC. Turn. (55 stitches)
Row 3: Repeat Row 2.
(to make the top portion wider, repeat Rows 2-3 one more time, or till desired width is reached, keeping in mind that panta will be wider still once the following decrease rounds are completed, and the band will also be wider. Upper photos shown above were done by working one extra set of repeats) When making the wider version, be sure to work both rows of repeat so that ribbing is maintained.
End working in the round, and work back and forth from here out.
Row 4: Ch1. SC2tog BLO. SC BLO next 42 stitches. SC2tog BLO. Turn. (44 SCs)
Row 5: Ch1 SC2tog BLO. SC BLO next 40 stitches. SC2tog BLO. Turn. (42 SCs)
Row 6: Ch1. SC2tog BLO. SC BLO next 38 stitches. SC2tog BLO. Turn. (40 stitches)
Row7: Ch1. SC BLO across. (40 stitches)
Finish off and weave in ends. I found it helpful to work the ends through edges where the increases and decreases took place, to give them a more finished look.
Block as needed.
