Zippy

This is a very quick project, and it's pretty easy to zip right through the pattern.

Requirements:

Size I hook
Approx 110 yards Malabrigo Worsted Merino yarn
Tapestry hook to work in ends

Ch=Chain
DC=Double Crochet
HDC= Half Double Crochet
SC= Single Crochet
SC2tog= Single crochet 2 together

Chain 3. Join with a slip stitch to first chain to create a circle.

Row 1: Ch 3 (counts as 1 DC throughout). Work 15 DCs into circle. (I like to work these stitches over my tail to weave it in as I go) Join with sl to first DC (16 st)

Row 2: Ch3. DC into same stitch. 2 DCs in each stitch around. Join with sl to first DC. (36 st)

Row 3: Ch3. DC into same stitch. DC in next 3 stitches. *2DC in next stitch. DC in next 3 stitches* repeat around. Join with sl to first DC. (42 st)

Row 4: Ch3. DC into same stitch. DC in next 4 stitches. *2 DC in next stitch. DC in next 4 stitches* repeat around. Join with sl to first DC. (48 st)

At this point, circle should cover the crown of your head. (not the entire top of the head) If you wish to make it larger, continue increasing in pattern, adding another DC before working 2 DC in next stitch. (ie, next round would be worked : Ch3. Dc in same stitch. DC in next 5 stitches. *2 DC in next stitch. DC in next 5 stitches* repeat around. Join w/sl to first DC)

Row 5: Ch3. DC into each stitch around. Join w/sl to first DC.

Row 6: Ch2. HDC in each stitch around. Join w/sl to first HDC.

Repeat Row 6 until hat measures 6 1/2" from top to bottom edge, or till hat is approx. 1 inch shorter than desired length.

Shape Band:

Row 1:: Ch1. SC in each stitch around. Join w'sl to first SC. (48 st)
Row 2: Ch1. * SC 10. SC2tog.* Repeat around. Join w/sl to first sc. (44 st)
Row 3: Ch1. SC in each stitch around.
Row 4: Repeat Row 3.

Fasten off and weave in end.

Twister Scarf

Twister is a fun scarf to crochet and wear! It can be worn hanging, or by folding it lengthwise and draping the ends through the loop created.

Yarns used: Malabrigo Worsted Merino~1 skein (216 yards)
Hummingbird colorway

Invictus Yarns Captain~ 2 skeins (218 yds each)
Cherish colorway

Hook Size: Crochet Hook size I
Notions: Tapestry needle for weaving ends

Gauge: I got 4 st/inch DC and the finished scarf is 65 inches long on the scarf shown.

Ch=Chain stitch
SC= Single Crochet
DC= Double Crochet

Chain 151 stitches loosely, or as needed to get preferred length. (keeping in mind that more yarn may be needed for a longer scarf)

Row 1: SC in second ch from hook. SC in each ch across. Turn. (150 stitches)
Row 2: Ch3 (counts as DC). 2 DC in first SC. 3 DC in each stitch across. Turn. (450 stitches)
Row 3: Ch3 (counts as DC). DC in first DC. 2 DC in each stitch across. (900 stitches)

Fasten off and weave in ends. You may need to rotate spirals to line up from each end. They will twist easily, or you can let them do their own thing for a more ruffled look.

For a more ruffled version, as pictured above using 2 skeins of  Invictus Yarns Captain SW in the Cherish colorway, work the first 2 rows of the scarf as described above and proceed to the following steps:

Row 3: 2 hdc in each stitch across
Row 4: 2 hdc in each stitch across
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Enjoy!

Ribbed Panta~ Tapered version

This version of the Ribbed Panta is geared toward those with shorter hair. It tapers to a narrower band in the back, allowing shorter hair to lay flat. (original version was worked even all the way around)

The top pictures, done in Velvet Grapes colorway, were worked in the wider tapered version described below.

Size I hook
approx 50 yard Malabrigo Worsted Merino (shown in Damask Rose colorway)

Gauge: 12 stitches= 4" in pattern

Finished size" 17.75 inches around, unstretched.

Ch=Chain stitch
SC=Single Crochet
BLO= work in back loop only
SL= slip stitch

Chain 41 loosely.
Foundation Row:
SC in second chain from hook
SC all chains to end. Turn. (40 stitches)

Row 1: Ch1. Working in BLO (back loop only), work 2 sc in first SC.
SC till one SC is left. Work 2 SCs in this stitch. Turn. (inc 2)

Repeat Row 1 twice more. Do not turn after last repeat.(46 stitches)

Ch 9 loosely. Being careful not to twist stitches, join chained stitches to opposite end with a SL (slip stitch) to first SC. Turn.

You will now be working in the round, turning after each row to maintain the ribbed effect.

Row 1: Ch1. SC in each of the 9 chains just created.
SC BLO next 46 stitches to complete row.
Join with SL to first SC in row. Turn.

Row 2: Ch1. SC around. Join with SL to first SC. Turn. (55 stitches)
Row 3: Repeat Row 2.

(to make the top portion wider, repeat Rows 2-3 one more time, or till desired width is reached, keeping in mind that panta will be wider still once the following decrease rounds are completed, and the band will also be wider. Upper photos shown above were done by working one extra set of repeats) When making the wider version, be sure to work both rows of repeat so that ribbing is maintained.

End working in the round, and work back and forth from here out.
Row 4: Ch1. SC2tog BLO. SC BLO next 42 stitches. SC2tog BLO. Turn. (44 SCs)
Row 5: Ch1 SC2tog BLO. SC BLO next 40 stitches. SC2tog BLO. Turn. (42 SCs)
Row 6: Ch1. SC2tog BLO. SC BLO next 38 stitches. SC2tog BLO. Turn. (40 stitches)
Row7: Ch1. SC BLO across. (40 stitches)

Finish off and weave in ends. I found it helpful to work the ends through edges where the increases and decreases took place, to give them a more finished look.

Block as needed.

Ribbed Panta

Ribbed Panta
shown in Malabrigo Worsted Merino Olive

I was inspired to make this by my daughter, who wears her long hair in a ponytail daily. She’s not comfortable pulling a hat down over the ponytail, and this allows her to keep her head and ears warm without disrupting her hair!

It can be worn as an earwarmer, over the hair, or as a more traditional headband. Because it isn't shaped, people with shorter hair who want to wear it as a headband may prefer the Tapered Version of this pattern, also listed on this blog, as it will allow the hair to hang more freely in back.

This is worked in the round, and should be turned after joining, with stitches done after foundation row worked through the back loop to create ribbing.

Supplies needed:
Crochet hook size I
Approximately 55 yards Malabrigo worsted weight yarn
Tapestry needle for weaving in ends

Gauge: 12 stitches= 4" in pattern
Finished size: 18" around, unstretched.

Abbreviation: Ch = Chain stitch
sc = single crochet
Blo = Back Loop Only

Chain 55 loosely, or enough stitches to comfortably stretch around your head.

Making sure stitches aren’t twisted, slip-stitch to first chain to connect and work in the round.

Chain 1

SC in each chain stitch around. (55 stitches)

Join with sl to first sc, turn.

*Ch1, sc blo each stitch around. Join with sl to first sc, and turn* (55 stitches)

Repeat as needed until piece measures 3 ½ inches, or desired width. Finish off and weave in ends.

Block as needed.

Wear and enjoy!
